'Life In A Day' case study:
Founders: Roidley Scott & Tom Scott
Producer:Scott Free Productions
Distrubutor: National Geographic Films
Life in a day is a doumentry styled film where on July 24 2010, thousands of people around the world uploaded small clips to youtube to show what their life is like in a single day on Earth. However although this film is directed by Kevin Mcdonald and distrubuted by National Geographic Films, this film is more crowd sourced as all the footage isnt shot by a director. Similar films Scott Free Productions have produced is Before I Gosleep, Gladiator and The Martian. The film film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival on 27 January 2011 and the premiere was streamed live on YouTube. On 31 October 2011 for free, as it wasn't about making profit, and made $252,788 in box office. One of the main reasosn why the producers decided the day for the film to be in July as its summer and people would be more active in their clips. The crew had to sit through 4,500 hours of footage in 80,000 submissions from 192 nations overall.

What is the difference between 'crowdsourcing' and crowd funding'?
Crowdsourcing:
Is process of collecting ideas, services, and/or content with the help of contributions from a large number of people usually through the internet.

Crowdfunding:

On March 13, 2013, Thomas and star Kristen Bell launched a fundraising campaign to produce the film through Kickstarter, offering various incentives to those who donated $10 or more. It attained the $2 million goal in less than eleven hours. In its first day on Kickstarter, the project broke the record as the fastest project to reach first $1 million, then $2 million; it also achieved the highest minimal pledging goal achieved, and became the largest successful film project on Kickstarter at the time. On its final campaign day, the project broke the record for the most backers on a single Kickstarter project. Afterwards, the film earned a greenlight from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.

about the film:
Veronica Mars used to be the popular girl with the cool friends and the jock boyfriend. A series of personal and family traumas have made her an outcast - albeit one with a sarcastic side and a snarky sense of humor. Now, she helps her private investigator father dig into the lives of the rich and famous in the messed-up town of Neptune, Calif.

Why is pre-production so important?
The Shining (1980)
about the film:
Jack Torrance is a writer and recovering alcoholic who becomes the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel. He hopes to use the quiet surroundings to get some writing done, and brings his family along for the ride. Instead, the hotel is haunted by malevolent spirits that drive Torrance insane to the point that he tries to kill his family.

what went wrong:
Despite being a critical and commercial darling, the film was plagued by the manic nuances of its perfectionist director, Stanley Kubrick. The movie was shot chronologically, which meant large sets needed to be built in advance, including a life-sized recreation of the hotel. He was notorious for making the actors do take after take until they played out the scene to his specifications. The “Here’s Johnny” scene where Torrance hacks through a door with an ax and delivers the line took three days to shoot and more than 60 doors.
Shelley Duvall, who played Torrance’s wife in the film, considers the role the most difficult of her career. She suffered from exhaustion, illness, and hair loss from the stress of the shoot. Kubrick was known to insult and get angry with her in order to push Duvall to her limits. He wanted the actress to feel absolutely hopeless, and it worked. He even had Jack Nicholson, who portrayed Torrance, eat only cheese sandwiches (which he detested) to intentionally put him in a bad mood.

what could have been done during the pre-production process to reduce the issues:
One way they could of reduced the problems for this film is have a team of individulas working on the script and having open discussions in a meeting with built in time. Therefore the script wouldn't of changed so much and the perfectionnist director would have been happier and not repeat each scene to his standars, as there would be no more changes to be made because they had a neatly finished script.
